My Piece of the Pie

Economics is all about scarcity; there are unlimited human wants, but limited resources to meet those demands.  You probably learned that in school, but may have never had to face the cold reality of what that means.  Everything you could ever want is accessible in the West.  The only thing you need is the money to buy it.  That’s where scarcity comes to life for me – lack of money.

Though we rarely face shortages in the physical world here in the West, somehow we all still instinctively feel that sense of scarcity.  There just isn’t enough to go around.  However, after reading Psalm 84:11 I wonder if it’s possible that the principle of scarcity doesn’t actually have to apply to Christ followers.

For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
the LORD bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
from those whose walk is blameless.

Is it possible that too many Christians have adopted scarcity as a way of life when God wants us to have an abundance mindset?

With an abundance mindset you can rejoice at the success of others – there’s lots more available.  You won’t have to worry that someone else is getting your slice of the pie – there’s lots of pie to go around.  God is not limited by the laws of nature or science.  He works outside of them and if you truly trust him as your provider then you have unlimited resources available when you ask according to His will.

Of course, a heart of greed will get you nowhere in God’s economy, but if your heart is pure then you have total abundance available.  Stop trying to protect your little lot.  Be generous!  There’s lots more where that came from.  Start thinking in that direction and hold on – it’s a wild ride ahead.
