I will not tolerate intolerance!

Tolerance is the virtue of those who live their lives without conviction. – G.K. Chesterton

That quote is not a battle cry for intolerance, it’s simply a statement of fact.

When there is no authority to appeal to on what’s right and wrong everyone is free to make their own choices.  Virtue is eliminated as a concrete concept because right and wrong have no marker posts.  When you are the ultimate authority on what’s best the ultimate virtue you can show is tolerance.  It means you are willing to go with anything.

I’m glad someone had some conviction when it came to removing Pol Pot, Hitler, Gaddafi and Milošević.  (I guess they didn’t get the memo that tolerance is the new virtue.)

There are no truly tolerant people.  For most people tolerance ends when a fist makes contact with their nose (if not earlier).  The people that say they are the most tolerant will rarely tolerate intolerance.

Want to see true tolerance?  God has tolerated our wickedness for centuries.  His fuse is long, but when it comes to an end you’ll want to make sure you are standing on something solid.

The Authority on right and wrong is intolerant of evil because he is just.

He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. (Romans 2:6-8)
