Do You Know What You Don’t Know?

You don’t know what you don’t know.  That’s a fact.  This week we will make lots of decisions based on the information at hand.  We usually make decisions based on a fairly consistent pattern of beliefs we hold about how the world works.  All those little decisions add up to a lifestyle.

Here’s the problem:  We often don’t realize there are better options.

I have made it a lifelong goal to constantly expand my knowledge of the world so that I can make the wisest choices for Emily and me and increase our influence for the kingdom of God.  There are two ways I have found work best:

  1. Seek counsel.  Find someone who has it together in the area of life you need more wisdom and stalk them.  Harass them if necessary until they give you input into how they got where they are.  Need parenting advice?  Ask someone who has kids who are serving the Lord.  Need financial advice?  Ask someone who is in good financial condition. Be prepared though, their answer will probably involve long, hard work.Plans are established by counsel; by wise guidance wage war. (Proverbs 20:18)
  2. Read, read, read.  The Bible should top your reading list.  After that I’d go with biographies.  Successful people that changed the world are simply people just like you and me.  It’s just that at some point they got thrown into a position that made them shine.  Most of them had some wisdom that helped them get there.  Reading expands the mind like nothing else can.  It will help you increase the scope of your knowledge and make wise decisions based on more information. If the iron is blunt, and one does not sharpen the edge, he must use more strength, but wisdom helps one to succeed.  Ecclesiastes 10:10

Get wisdom today and sharpen your mental ax.  Live smarter not harder.
