The Little Weed That Could

When we first moved into our house there was a scraggly-looking, overgrown weed in the back.  I vowed in my heart to cut it down.  I hate weeds.  One day it rained and the weed exploded with dozens of bright flowers like the ones above.  I decided I had misjudged the poor organism – it’s more than a weed, it’s a plant.

For weeks we enjoyed it’s flowers.  Then one day a windstorm snapped it in half.  I told Emily it was time to prune it down and we’d just hope it would recover.  I now had an affinity for the dear plant.  Our friend Sarah Jane is a nurse.  She had an idea.  We taped the tree and glued it back together. (pic below)  I thought it was just a matter of time before the tree would meet its doom.

This morning I went outside.  The tree is producing flowers again.  It’s been nearly a month since we bandaged the tree.  It’s thriving.

I hope that when I’m not looking my best or when the winds of life snap me in half I’ll have people around who will take time to bandage me rather than decide it’s time to chop me down.  I’m still pretty convinced I have some flowers to offer.  I also have to constantly remind myself to be patient with others who aren’t blooming right now.
